Since childhood, my personal and professional work has centered around words: reading, writing, learning, editing, and teaching. I love letters, words, languages, the art of handwriting, and Jewish wisdom, life and practice — all of which brought me to safrut, the art of scribing sacred Jewish texts.
In 2014 I began studying with Jen Taylor, who in 2007 became the first woman to write a sefer Torah, and since then I have been learning, practicing, and providing scribal services as a soferet, a female scribe, for congregations and individuals. I am honored to be a woman who is committed to and engaged in traditional Jewish life and who also wants more liberal communities to feel they are working with a soferet who understands and deeply respects their values and expressions of Jewish practice.
I have expertise in writing megillot, ketubot, and new Torah scrolls; checking and repairing sifrei Torah; teaching about scribing sacred Jewish texts for religious schools, adult education, and informal classes; checking mezuzot; and custom scribal projects. I’m especially interested in contributing to meaningful, inclusive, community-building projects, and I care deeply about creating inclusive, accessible approaches to halakha and Jewish life.
My background and my own winding path have made me highly attuned to reaching and including a wide range of audiences, and clients and colleagues have found me to be a strategic thinker, a details maven, a reliable and committed partner, and a great communicator. I live in Berkeley, California, with my husband and our children. Several fellow progressive scribes and I offer a variety of scribal services through our Stam Scribes collective.
